"Considering this is a free post you can make the correct assumption that we would not recommend living here" -> burst out laughing when I saw that lol

I don't think you want to go here as a Wire fan. "Excuse me, my guidebook doesn't have any information regarding the best areas to see crack dealers in action. Oh, and I'd love to see an authentic drive-by shooting, where would you recommend?"

Why see an authentic drive by shooting when you can be a big part of it by playing the role of victim

Neither the Barksdale people, nor the Marlo people ever did drive-bys on tourists, or citizens in general. If you ain't in the game, you're not going to get targeted.

Lived in baltimore for almost 10 years. This city doesnt deserve an obituary column, let alone a city guide. Wtf.

Lived there for years. If you’re under 25 it’s a fun spot for low COL to get your money up and have a little fun in the process.

Also highly recommend joining the Merritt gym as it’s the best in town and has a rooftop pool where all the hottest women in Baltimore seem to gather on saturdays in the summer.

Surprised John’s Hopkins hospitals weren’t mentioned as potential employers worth living in Baltimore

Seems pretty accurate. I was in Baltimore recently for a trade show and unfortunately my hotel was 10 blocks north of the recommended harbor area. When I arrived, the hotel air conditioning was broken and stayed broken for 2 days. No discount or apologies offered. The food for the trade show was amateur night, all messed up. Made the mistake of walking at night in the wrong area, luckily we were three men and we skated by. But it looked rough. I consider this a failed city.

In Pittsburgh, people ask the same school question. Think it’s a Midwest thing maybe. Small cities like these tend to have lots of people who were born and raised there. Which is not something typical of a bigger city like NYC, LA or LV.

"where did you go to school" is a very fair conversation starter for young adults aged 21-30 no?

If you want to talk about high school in this case, you’ve already lost.

id agree but would assume most people are referring to college

The post calls out that in Baltimore, the question is not referring to college.

This was probably the most surprising thing about this article. I wonder why this is the case. I've been to 20+ cities in the U.S., and college has always been the implied meaning in the school question.

In my experience, cities with a heavy Catholic, private high school presence have been the same.

Okay I say this as semi local to that area + DMV.. The one thing that you didn't mention which I think is worth mentioning is the talent lady-wise in that area is extremely underrated. Lot of good genes in those suburbs of MD. Also, to differentiate most white people w/ two parents tend to have conservative or conservative leaning parents.. this is doubly true for any Baltimore suburb and excluding Montgomery county (based on proximity to DC)

For those wondering about the “where did you go to school” thing - I lived and worked in Baltimore. It is a very “old money” town believe it or not. It’s either you went to private high school of a varying degree or public. And most people who live in Baltimore did not leave Baltimore. They are trained from a young age to be distrusting of those not in Baltimore and they are superior. Which in other cities I can understand (not agree with). But Baltimore? Goes to show human nature
