Welcome Avatar! At the start of every year, the unsuccessful people begin the rumor mill. Would like to thank them for this annual occurrence as it drives interactions. That said, do enjoy writing to the OG people from nearly a decade ago so we’ll be talking about Michael Mason (theGManifesto), San Francisco 49ers (IYKYK) and add on some extras. The funny thing is our museum analysis is the *one* talent we can’t teach. Have no idea how to do it and it’s something that took years to develop. However. We can still cover a bunch of stuff.
Part 1: Michael Mason - TheGManifesto
This got the most likes at the time of the posting as you can see here. That said we’ll still talk about a few other items mentioned in the thread. (Source)
Back in the early 2010s to mid 2010s, there was a website called thegmanifesto run by an anon called “Michael Porfirio Mason”. Unsure why this was chosen but as a fun side note, he did talk about Mexico quite a bit and there is a great restaurant called Porfirio’s in Mex City (DF).
Quick Background: The “anon” had lots of information on various cities. At this point some is likely out dated and over time he grew tired of giving out information since he realized the majority were not well off like he was: 1) custom suits, 2) smoking, 3) zippos, 4) San Diego/Miami, 5) Montreal in the Summer and 6) towards the end babushka’s. In case he is reading this, he even messaged us a photo of some of the girls via DM and in fact one was wearing a babushka.
This was the original inspirational character if we’re all being honest. Made his money online. Didn’t flex publicly (knew the perils of being a public figure) and on top of that travelled the world for quite some time. In the end he talked about settling on a village by the sea (unclear but as a hint Del Ray Florida is called the Village by the sea)
Most people hated the man and tried to cry larp. He was prominent on various forums and after he said “just pull down my IPs” the crowd gave up. They knew it was real after that. (although being autistic you could also just use a VPN). Either way, over time we ended up going to the vast majority of the cities he mentioned and even went to several he didn’t which were quite good: Germany, Tokyo and Seoul to name a few.
Quick Autist Analysis: This part is opinionated and we’ll lay out our highest conviction stuff to lowest: 1) highest conviction is he was an affiliate to start. Too many obvious signs from the video ad he used to run and the starting point of San Diego moving to Miami. That is about as blatant as it can get. Likely blackhatter, 2) later we’re betting he ended up starting an ad network or selling a software system to help affiliates (or even track them/trace them). Unclear but the software angle became more apparent based on his cashflow comments and 3) towards the end he was certainly annoyed with the broke guys talking to him. This became more obvious with his commentary. At that point likely settled in Florida with the other half the year in Monaco or somewhere else. Guessing Monaco given tax treatment and constant commentary there
In short, extremely high conviction in being an affiliate and then selling some software product. We won’t give out anything else sent via DM since that’s not fair beyond the photo comment which is innocuous.
BlackHat etc.: Can’t give out the major stuff since this is a free post. We’ve covered it all in Efficiency and have made comments already. Compliance is completely down at META and you can get away with a TON of black hat stuff at this point. Since they are struggling they suddenly turn a blind eye to affiliates.
Black hat cloaking and all those slogans simply mean this: not compliant ads. Cloakers would make it such that a META employee clicks the link and it goes to a completely normal landing page (with software). Then if a regular person clicks on it (looking for a magic pill). They land on some crazy countdown scam page telling you that for $XX a month you can lose weight, get flawless skin or some scammy testosterone booster item.
The worst of the worst would run a MLM/pyramid scheme as well saying “bring in a friend and get 50% commission” and run that up as well or attach a “premium product” for $300 if the magic pill didn’t work.
Some Additional: The last item is that Affiliate Money is *FAST* money in the blackhat world. This also explains the obscene spending habits of GManifesto in the early years. This is still common today. People running the Black Hat stuff spend on crazy things with no regard to saving a penny. These days you could still see $10K days and the major networks could see multiple 6-figures in a day. The downside is that if you go deeper in this direction you of course will begin flirting with the law which you don’t want to do.
Getting Accounts: Oddly we can address DeFiFrog’s comments too (source) since part of the blackhat game is just getting more accounts. If you’re getting banned all the time your IP is traced and you have to find random “warm” accounts to run the new ads. This requires hitting up all your friends/acquaintances/family for a new account that has a history of about 12 months then paying them a portion of the profits before it of course… gets banned again.
Conclusion: This was probably the most underrated account in the history of the internet. In the rare case he’s reading this *thank you* for everything you did. While most will only talk about the smoking, girls and travel. The tweet/post he liked the most from us back in the day had this tagline
“Fame is just harassment from regular people”
Clear lesson in here. Fame is a prison for adults who want to be treated like zoo animals. Zoo animals live behind bars just as prisoners do.
Part 2: San Francisco Review (1/10) Do Not Go
If you’re involved in tech you would know a lot about Silicon Valley and SF. Therefore this is an addendum. May as well do it here but here is your general experience if you visit SF. Hint: Don’t.
A Short Story
You land in SFO. You’re sitting in the second row of Mint Jet Blue to make sure you have enough room for your tent. The sliding door helps you avoid accidental arm contact with people in the aisle. Always a nuisance.
As you land, you peer out the window and notice a beautiful landscape. So you think.
You grab one of the following: sushi, Mexican or a green juice. The three major useful items in the airport and get ready to go to your hotel. You learn that the public transportation system is a crime scene (worse than the NYC Metro). Many of the BART trains even have cotton seats to absorb the drugs, urine and who knows what else into the cushion.
Even for a homeless man this is too much to consider. You jump into an uber black.
You arrive in downtown SF. You’ve made a terrible mistake (as you realize later). Even if you stay at the Ritz Carlton, if you exit the hotel and go left for a couple of blocks you will see people shooting up drugs and drinking. If you decide to wander further down towards union square this only amplifies. And. No one is foolish enough to keep walking down Geary street into the Tenderloin. (PS: both directions are bad, If you go right and walk down the stairs you end up in Chinatown???? (yes weird)).
Anyway. You go and grab dinner at one of the variety of good restaurants (at least they have that)!
Since you’re new, you try to go to a nearby *popping* area called Little Italy. Luckily you didn’t have dinner there since all the food spots are right next to the strip clubs. The low quality ones where you can’t even imagine where the people were shipped in from.
There are even a few sketchy nightclubs there. You hail an uber, pop a breath mint and put on some cologne to try and cleanse yourself from this *nightlife experience*.
You end up in the only decent place in the whole city. The Marina district. Yeah it s pretentious but it sure beats drug addicted loons. You turn it up and make due by partying there.
Since there are no real options outside of this district you even try your luck at the late night pizza places where people congregate after the bars close. You thought you did okay that night but you drank 7 shots and quickly realize you’re about to spend the night with someone you would never talk to in NYC or Dallas (49 syndrome).
Instead, you claim to have work tomorrow (tomorrow is Sunday) and head back. Before jumping into the hotel you witness transgender escorts, heroine users and various people in hoodies puking on Polk Street.
You’ve learned your lesson. Best to eat healthy and leave. Only a deranged man would stay. Which actually explains the situation in SF quite perfectly.
Autist Note: If you’re a woman looking for a nice man to lock down, this is one of the best places in the world for you. It won’t be hard for you to find someone making $250,000+ a year. If you’re from NYC, Dallas or Miami it would probably take you 2 weeks tops to find a suitable person. Okay, okay, 2 days tops.
Part 3: Other Various Stuff
Opposite: Oddly one of the common requests was “doing the opposite”. This is quite funny because it was the exact REEL posted today on IG! This is good news because it means we’re growing IG organically and anyone with more than three brain cells can tell which post it was based off of! (Source)
RingTones: Back in the day this was a major market. Certainly the biggest missed opportunity in history. Even bigger than the people who didn’t buy BTC/ETH under $1K/$100. Ring tones.
If you recognize the phone on the left you remember playing Snake and everyone buying ringtones. This was when people would charge $2! just for 30 seconds of music for their phone. This stuff is free now but with a basic burner you can see how quickly this was a money printer while it lasted.
The three major phones were the Nokia, then later blackberry then of course iPhone/Samsung. Most of our readership probably only knows blackberry/iphone/Samsung. On that note a big F*** you to the guys who keep bringing this up you already know it is the biggest regret in our lifetime so thanks for rubbing salt, alcohol and lemon juice into the constantly reopened wound.
IB Bonuses - First year analyst: Even though we posted the exact range of 30-50% of being street we’re going to take the bait and walk through short history of IB bonuses.
Back in 2005-2007 or so before the recession, you saw *some* top tier first year bonuses being $100K. Yes really $80-100K back then was possible although base salaries were lower close to $60K
2008-2009 or so numbers took a big hit. Lots of zeros, some 50% of base ($30K or so) and then base salaries started to rise to make up for attrition
Around 2010-2011 or so: Salaries moved to about $80K and bonuses for a first year for most would hover $45-50K
Around 2012-2014: You stared to see divergence between performance of groups. Salaries had a range of 80-90K and some of the major firms with big years would pay out 100% again (back to the $80-100K range) but most still $50-60K
Around 2015-2019: Base salaries vary even more, use a range of $80-100K (most 80-90K)
Around 2020-2021 during the crazy run up base salaries moved up $50-10K Most at $85-95K. At this point there was a huge range due to covid and some firms foolishly payed out $100K+ giving first years the second year top buckeet bonuses
Go to 2022: Now rough range $90K base and bonus down 30-50% from 2021 depending on how you did and what firm you’re at (RIP people down 90% at goldman)
This is all written fast and quick but anyone involved from 2005-2022 would know this is roughly right.
